It is with unspeakable sadness that we share the news that Tony Morgan passed away on the morning of Wednesday, September 4, 2024, after suffering a heart attack two days before and battling with all his strength. His wife Emily, his four adult children, and their spouses were there by his side.
We are truly in shock. And while we know we do not grieve as those who have no hope, and we know Tony is with Jesus today, we can’t help but feel we lost the most amazing friend and leader—a man who fiercely loved Jesus and His Church—long before we were ready.
Tony was the kind of leader who lived up to his calling.
If you ever wondered if he was the same person behind closed doors that he was in his books, on The Unstuck Church Podcast, or facilitating strategic planning at your church, you can be fully assured that he was.
Tony loved his family. When he was traveling to serve your churches, he was always itching to get back home to Emily. He loved you. But he loved her more.
His adult children loved spending time with him, and the entire Morgan clan was often together to watch Cleveland baseball or to eat a really good meal.
He empowered the leaders on his team, while never shirking his responsibility to captain our ship. He showed respect and appreciation for the strengths and gifts of every person, in every kind of role. Each one of us would tell you he’s the best boss we ever had.
Above all, he loved Jesus and he loved the Church. His creative genius was always working on ways to equip you better and to see your churches reaching more people and helping them learn to follow Jesus.
Please lift up Emily and all of Tony’s kids in prayer, and lift up The Unstuck Group, too. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus.
The Morgan family published Tony’s obituary and asked us to share it with you.
We celebrated the life and the legacy that Tony lived on September 19, 2024 at his church, North Point Community Church. The replay is available here.
In lieu of flowers, the family asked that you make a donation in support of a cause close to Tony’s heart: developing the next generation to lead unstuck churches. You can donate here to a fund established to provide scholarships for young pastors to participate in leadership training through The Unstuck Group.
Sincerely,
Unstuck team
