We’ve entered the designated week of the year when everyone collectively agrees to give thanks. Of course, we follow it up with Black Friday, when everyone collectively agrees we need more, we need it at an ungodly hour and we need it for less money than anyone else paid for it.
But anyway, while we are giving thanks, my team and I pulled together a list of some of the top reasons we think church leaders should be thankful to work in ministry. Here they are:

You get to spend your working hours on the work you believe matters most in life.

You’re in a field that recognizes a sabbatical as a legitimate request.

You probably don’t have to wear a suit to work every day.

You get paid to attend potluck dinners.

Saying “I’ll pray about it” is often an accepted excuse for procrastination or not doing something you don’t want to do.

Even the IRS thinks you deserve a discount.

You always get the privilege of praying over the meal at family gatherings.

You get the best seat for the Christmas production (because you never went home).
-
You get the best parking spot for the Christmas production (also because you never went home).
-
Your normal responsibilities can be brushed aside because of urgent Christmas-related tasks.
In all seriousness, even though the holidays can be a crazy time for people in full-time ministry, we really do have little to complain about. We’re giving sincere thanks during this season for an opportunity to spend our lives doing Kingdom work.
