    Quarterly Unstuck Church Report

Today is one of those days when I write with teary eyes. It happens — usually on days when I hear first hand how God is making all things new in His Church.

We’ve passed a few emails around the staff team this morning, each from a pastor who is leading change and feeling the weight of all that comes with that. But each pastor also expressed the courage and renewed energy he has, and that encourages our hearts. The very first principle of The Unstuck Way is to bring hope.

leading change messy middle

After all, faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Losing hope so often precludes losing faith.

One church leader told us he feels his church is in the “messy middle” as he casts vision for his church to become outwardly-focused. We encouraged him with this: a bit of Scripture and a bit of wisdom from one of our consultants, Mark Morgan:

“But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.” – 2 Peter 3:9

“The Lord is being patient with US – the believers. He is being patient with US, His church, to reach the lost. He desires that none should perish. This is on US to lead the changes that will reach people who do not know the Lord. Reaching unbelievers is the only thing we can do HERE – not in heaven. In heaven we can sing and live in fellowship, but there will be no one to reach in heaven. The time is now.”

Be courageous, leaders. The harvest is great, but the laborers are few. And the few, from what we generally see, are weary. The emails we got this morning re-energized us to keep helping leaders get their churches unstuck. I share these simple thoughts this morning in hopes of re-energizing you to keep leading through the messy middle.
